U.S.A. end their Gold Cup with a loss to Panama in the third place match. It was evident that the U.S. was playing the game just to get it out of the way. They showed to fight, no drive, no initiative. It looked as though the game could mirror Michael Bradley’s words from a month ago when he mentioned that the Gold Cup was a joke of a tournament, and the U.S. played like it.

Panama on the other hand had more to prove and play for. After the heart breaking loss to Mexico in the Semis they needed to show that they were the team to beat, that the Mexico game was not a fluke, and they did. They fought forward from minute one, they had creativity and produced several scoring chances. But in the end, the game would end in a draw in regulation 1-1 from scores from Roberto Nurse and Clint Dempsey who scored his seventh of the tournament.

Overtime would also produce zero goals and this game would have to be decided in PK’s. Luck would not follow the U.S. who would succomb in PK’s 3-2 with misses from Michael Bradley and Demarcus Beasley. Panama had made their statement, they had defeated a “big” from the CONCACAF and they had done it looking good.
